If you live in France, you must declare your income to the tax department every year. In 2022, online declaration is mandatory if your home is connected to the internet. Otherwise, you can use a paper form.
You don't have to file a tax return if your situation meets the following 2 conditions:
- You were only taxed on revenus préremplis income in 2021.
- You have not reported a change in status in 2021
Declaration of revenus préremplis for income tax
The revenus préremplis declaration indicates income that is known to the administration. All you have to do is check it, supplement it and, if necessary, correct it.
What does the tax return revenus préremplis contain?
Most taxpayers have nothing to add to their pre-filled tax return.
After all, the most common headings are already filled in. Pre-filled details appear on the screen when you declare your income online.
The information contained in this declaration is submitted annually to the tax authorities by third party filers, that is, employers, public organizations (including the Social Service), Pôle Emploi, pension funds and financial institutions.
Tax return: what is pre-filled
These are the main revenues received in 2021:
- wage,
- pensions,
- benefits,
- unemployment benefit,
- sickness benefits,
- income from financial investments,
- remunerations paid to Cesu, Paje, Tesa, Guso,
- and etc.
The pre-filed return includes income known to the administration received by the primary taxpayer and your spouse or PACS partner.
Tax return: what is not filled out in advance
- real estate income,
- capital gain,
- income of the entrepreneur (traders, representatives of liberal professions, farmers),
- income of dependents or persons associated with the tax household (for example, student children),
- expenses deducted from income (for example, alimony),
- expenses that allow you to receive a tax credit or rebate (donations to associations, tuition, hiring a home worker, Pinel, etc.)
- special benefits related to the profession (for example, journalists, nannies, students, fishermen, etc.),
- tax-free portion of student earnings,
- in case of deduction of actual costs: reimbursement of costs incurred by the company.
Reporting obligations, who does it concern?
If you are one of the 12 million tax households interested in a so-called tacite or automatique declaration, you will receive, or may have already received, a document that includes elements known to the tax authorities through information about income declared by third parties (employers, pension funds, Pôle Emploi, etc.).
Two possible scenarios:
Case #1: You will not have to file a return if the amounts shown on the document you receive are complete and correct. You will then be considered to have “tacitly” (tacite) signed your application.
Case #2: You will need to submit an amended return if additions and corrections are needed. Attention ! Be sure to meet the 2022 application deadlines.
How do I correct a pre-filled return?
Is the pre-filled information incorrect on your income tax return?
Delete them and enter the correct ones. Correcting pre-filled data is your responsibility, so there is no need to send supporting documents.
Please note that if you marry, divorce, or die in 2021, your tax family composition has changed compared to 2020. You will, of course, have to correct the amounts reported on your pre-filed tax return.
Declare your income on your smartphone using a mobile tax app
You can check your pre-filled tax return on your smartphone, provided that the information provided by the tax authorities on it does not require any corrections or additions.
To do this, download the application “impots.gouv” (on Google Play or App Store). Once the app has been downloaded, all you need to do is enter the code found on your tax return, enter your reference tax income and confirm.
